Jakarta, 12 May 2026 – Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi has sought to expand academic opportunities for its students and staff with a visit to EducationUSA at the United States Embassy in Jakarta.
The delegation, led by Dr Dion Ginanto, Coordinator of the Centre for International Services and Cooperation, and Ali Ubaidah, S.TP, met with Muhammad Iqbal, Public Engagement Assistant and EducationUSA Adviser, and Catur Wahyudi, Public Engagement Specialist from the Public Affairs Section.

The meeting highlighted several initiatives designed to support Indonesian students and academics in pursuing study in the United States. Among them was the One on One programme, which offers free mentorship for lecturers, staff, and students considering further study abroad. “We are ready to provide free mentorship, including mock interviews for scholarship applicants and guidance on writing motivational letters or personal statements,” said Catur Wahyudi.
EducationUSA also promoted the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI), a short-course programme aimed at developing leadership skills among students in the region. UIN Jambi has previously participated in American exchange schemes, including the SUSI Leadership Programme, but officials said many opportunities remain underexplored.
Dr Dion Ginanto welcomed the support. “I only recently learned that EducationUSA offers free guidance, including the One on One programme. This is excellent news for our academic community,” he said. He added that continued information-sharing would help ensure Jambi’s students are not left behind compared with their counterparts in Java.
The visit also reviewed ongoing collaborations between UIN Jambi and US universities, including Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) projects with Michigan State University and plans to initiate a similar programme with the University of Wyoming.
The initiative forms part of UIN Jambi’s wider mission to become a world-class university, by strengthening international partnerships and ensuring its students have access to global education opportunities.
