JAMBI, Universitas Islam Negeri Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi is preparing to host an American scholar for a month-long teaching program, part of an effort to expand its international academic partnerships.
On July 21, 2026, at 8 a.m. local time, faculty members from UIN Jambi met virtually with Dr. Hazar Shehadeh of the University of Arizona to finalize details of the visit. The meeting, held via Zoom, was led by Dr. Dion Ginanto, who outlined the university’s expectations for the collaboration.
The discussions centered on the duration of the program, curriculum design, accommodations, and logistical arrangements. Dr. Shehadeh is expected to deliver courses on Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), a model that connects students and faculty across borders through joint online classes.
“Although UIN Jambi has already conducted two COIL batches with Michigan State University, we need to deepen this practice across faculties, staff, and students,” Dr. Ginanto said.
The program will be structured into four terms, with participants drawn from multiple faculties. Dr. Shehadeh noted that he is still awaiting formal approval from the University of Arizona to travel to Indonesia.
“Once I receive confirmation, I will immediately coordinate with UIN Jambi regarding the schedule for in-person classes,” he said.
The initiative is part of the Fulbright Specialist Program, designed to strengthen academic networks and provide specialized training. UIN Jambi officials emphasized that the visit would not only enhance teaching capacity but also broaden the university’s international reach.
“We greatly value Dr. Shehadeh’s time and will remain flexible with scheduling. The rector and leadership of UIN STS Jambi fully support this effort,” Dr. Ginanto added.
The collaboration underscores UIN Jambi’s ambition to position itself as a hub for global academic exchange, with COIL serving as a cornerstone of its internationalization strategy.
