Jakarta, 12 May 2026 – Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi has stepped up its international outreach with a visit to the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta. The meeting focused on expanding academic cooperation and reinforcing ties with Malaysia, which currently sends the largest number of international students to UIN Jambi.
The delegation from UIN Jambi was led by Dr. Dion Ginanto, Coordinator of the Centre for International Services and Cooperation, accompanied by Ali Ubaidah, S.TP. They were received by senior officials from the Malaysian Embassy, including Dr Hasnul Faizal Hushin Amri, Director of Education Malaysia Indonesia (EMI) and Minister Counsellor for Education, Abdul Aziz Abdullah, Education Attaché, and Shafieza Binti Md Faizal, Counsellor for Education.

Discussions centred on strengthening academic collaboration, with UIN Jambi offering opportunities such as scholarships for Malaysian students, joint teaching and research projects, and guest lectures. The university emphasised its ambition to become a world-class institution and highlighted the role Malaysian students play in enriching campus life.
Dr Hasnul welcomed the proposals and suggested new avenues of cooperation. “I would like to offer partnerships with Islamic colleges in Malaysia, enabling students to study three years in Malaysia and one year at UIN Jambi,” he said. He added that UIN Jambi should send a formal letter to the Embassy to facilitate links with institutions such as UIS Selangor, Kolej Islam Trengganu, and MAIWP. “In the near future, one Malaysian university will visit the Embassy, and we would be pleased to invite UIN Jambi to join,” he noted.
Dr Dion Ginanto conveyed greetings from the Rector of UIN Jambi and expressed hopes for deeper collaboration. “UIN Jambi looks forward to welcoming more Malaysian students. Our leadership also wishes to expand cooperation in teaching and research with Malaysian universities, and we ask for your support in building these bridges,” he said.

He added that UIN Jambi’s strategy is distinctive. “While some universities limit the number of international students and diversify by country, we aim to do both – increasing the number of countries represented and the overall number of international students,” he explained.
The visit underlines UIN Jambi’s commitment to academic diplomacy, with Malaysia seen as a key partner in its drive to enhance international collaboration and strengthen its global profile.
